What Is 3 Jars Academy? Teaching Kids Math, Money, and Generosity

April 14, 2026 · 4 min read

Most math apps reward kids with virtual coins or cartoon stickers. That's fine for a while — but what if the rewards meant something real? What if every math problem your child solved brought them closer to a family ice cream trip, their first stock investment, and a donation to a cause they care about?

That's the idea behind 3 Jars Academy — a free platform where kids ages 5-12 earn points by solving math problems, language exercises, and logic puzzles. When they hit milestones, those points convert into real-world value across three jars.

The Three Jars

The concept is inspired by a simple money management approach that financial educators have recommended for decades: split your money into three buckets. We adapted it for kids in a way that feels exciting, not like a lecture.

🎉
Experience with Family
Arcade trips, ice cream dates, movie nights — celebrate the hard work together.
💰
Investing Jar
Money set aside for their first real stock purchase. Learning investing early.
💝
Give Back Jar
Save toward a donation to a cause they choose. Building generosity as a habit.

Parents control exactly how much goes into each jar through the Settings page. The default is $50 for experiences, $10 for investing, and $10 for giving — but every family can customize it to match their values and budget.

How Kids Earn Points

3 Jars Academy offers a range of games across math, language, and logic. Each game awards points based on difficulty, and a 75% accuracy threshold encourages kids to aim for understanding — not just speed.

The adventure game, Shrine Quest, is particularly popular — kids push numbered balls onto plates to hit target sums, then navigate through doors to reach the goal. It teaches addition strategy without feeling like a worksheet.

The 10,000-Point Celebration

When a player hits 10,000 points with 75%+ accuracy, the screen explodes with confetti, a celebration sound plays, and all three jars fill up. It's a genuine family moment — and kids remember it.

The accuracy requirement is intentional. It's not enough to just grind through problems quickly — kids need to actually get them right. This teaches that real rewards come from real understanding, not just effort alone.

Built for Families, Not Shareholders

3 Jars Academy is completely free. There are no ads, no premium tiers, no data collection. It was built by a parent who wanted something better than the math apps that treat kids like engagement metrics. Multiple kids can have their own player profiles under one family account, each tracking their own jars and progress.

The platform syncs across devices through Firebase, so kids can practice on a tablet at home and pick up where they left off on a laptop at grandma's house.

Getting Started

It takes about 30 seconds: create an account, add your child's name, and pick a game. No email verification, no onboarding flow, no tutorials. Kids figure out the games immediately — that's by design.
